Essential spring skincare tips for dull skin

Skip into spring with beautiful radiant skin by making these glow-gifting changes to your skincare routine.

When the temperatures are rising and the flowers are blooming… that can only mean one thing: spring has arrived! To keep up with the seasonal shift (and your skin’s ever-changing needs), take a moment to make a few little tweaks to your current skincare routine. Your skin will thank you for it.

Spring is the season to hit refresh on your skincare routine

This is the perfect time to reinvigorate your skin’s true luminosity and get the show (or should we say glow?) back on the road. Winter takes a massive toll on the skin, and the effects of the harsh season often linger well into spring. After months of prolonged dryness, poor circulation, and slowed skin turnover, your skin can appear dull and dreary long after the chill has gone away.

Get your pre-winter radiance back with these quick tips on switching up your routine for spring.

Trade in your rich winter creams for lighter textures in spring.

Out with the dull, in with the glow using a toner or serum

Your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells to reveal new radiant skin on a regular cycle. However, during winter, the skin’s cell renewal process slows down as the body conserves energy – causing dead skin cells to pile on and wreak havoc. They cling on to pores and sit on the skin’s surface, resulting in a dull, lifeless appearance that is even more apparent in spring. Target this pesky buildup by adding an astringent toner or serum containing exfoliating acids to reveal smooth, radiant skin.

Protect skin against UV damage

We know some days it still feels like winter - but don’t let it fool you into skimping on your sunscreen. In fact, early spring is when UV radiation rises more drastically than any other time of the year.

Acute sun exposure can make skin appear dull and cloudy because it triggers the production of melanin, a dark pigment that protects your skin from harmful UV rays. Amp up your sun protection by wearing a sunscreen with SPF30 and PA++ or higher.

Reapply sunscreen every two hours or every hour if you’re out in the sun. This ensures your skin is properly protected at all times.

Use a lightweight moisturizer

As the weather starts to warm up, it’s so important for you to continue moisturising – even if your skin doesn’t feel like it needs it. Spring (thankfully) tends to be less dry than winter, which means your skin is able to draw some of the moisture it needs from the air. So, while you may no longer need an arsenal of heavy winter creams, you’ll still need hydration via a lighter, water-based lotion or an oil-free formula. This helps your skin stay happily balanced all season long.

Apply eye cream for allergy season

Some call it spring, others call it (ick!) allergy season. Skin reactions and irritations are unfortunately more prevalent this time of the year thanks to airborne allergens. For many of us, it means one thing: swelling, puffy eyes.

Counter this issue like a pro by opting for an eye cream packed with nourishing ingredients. Take it one step further by storing your eye cream in the refrigerator; the refreshing cool temperature can help relieve any swelling condition as you apply the cream.

Quick tip

Every hour, your skin sheds between 30,000 to 40,000 dead skin cells (it’s a good thing, we promise!) so regular exfoliation is key to making sure the dead skin cells get off your skin’s surface.
